Trendy studios aren’t developing hit artists.
Here’s why!
Studio1212 is the first music recording studio in Las Vegas that is an actual artist development studio. We love developing local talent at an industry level.
Searching for music recording studios in Las Vegas, I’m sure you have booked the type of recording studios that look amazing but don’t match up with that urban sound, or the engineer doesn’t know enough about Hip Hop or R&B to critique the flow or the artist while building the song.
My belief is you can’t pick a music recording studio off of what celebrity has been in there recording. It’s easy to record famous artists because they’ve already been groomed and developed in recording studio etiquette over the years. So it’s relatively easy for them to go into recording studios in Las Vegas and record what they want. Then take the whole ProTools session back to their major record labels to be mixed and mastered.
Developing artists from the ground up is a much different process. I like to compare the process to superstars athletes like Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, and Tiger Woods. Over the years, you’ve seen their growth from consistent practicing, while coaches were critiquing their games. They learned new techniques to make the game easier, etc.
See, it’s not about all the bells and whistles of having the best equipment. I’ve been in music recording studios that had SSL mixing consuls that or worth $100,000 +, but they don’t use the SSL as a mixing consul. It’s for show.. they are just using as a two-track stereo channel to run ProTools through. All that power, why not use it on your song?
The reason why is it take hours to mix a full song on an SSL mixing board. All the outboard gear that needs to be dialed in. It’s a significant process. But here’s the biggest problem with the SSL mixing board you can not recall the EQ on the board.
So if you’re ever in a Las Vegas recording studio mixing down your song on the SSL and a couple of days later you want to go back and make some changes to the mix, and somebody happens to turn one or two of the knobs you will not be able to recall that mix.
99.9% of the music recording studios in Las Vegas are mixing in the box. What that means is right in the computer, via Protools logic, etc. So it’s really about the engineer and how he uses his tools to craft the song in a way that the recording sounds clean to the listeners.
The process is the main reason why at Studio1212, we do not rush the song or the artist in the recording studio. We charge a flat $120 for a three-hour studio session with the vocals and the wave mixed at radio level quality. If we go over 3 hours during the Studio session, we charge the artist an additional $60 per hour.
Typically hip-hop songs only take 2 to 3 hours. R&B songs usually take longer because of the harmonies…
It’s about the quality of the song when it’s finished.
At Studio1212, it all about the vibe. We guarantee our work 100%.
